picking a great phone case

As technology advances, the mobile phones we use become increasingly expensive and delicate. While they may come with protective glass designed to resist the inevitable drops, it’s quite common for them to slip out of our hands or get damaged by accidents. This is why finding a case to protect our new phones is essential! Here are a few tips on what to look for when shopping for a case that ticks all the boxes.

For me personally, I've not had a single repair claim since I started using UAG - Urban Amor Gear mobile phone cases roughly seven years ago to protect my Huawei Mate 10, following a series of disastrous incidents where previous phones would be cracked, chipped, scratched. Since that time though, each of my (increasingly expensive phones!) has survived their tenure in my pocket. Whether they were traded in or passed on to a friend, this is a remarkable testament to both the improved build quality of Huawei's phones and more recently those from Samsung such as the S23 Ultra that I just pre-ordered.

This is not a sponsored post in any way. I just honestly love UAG and they are the only brand I trust with a piece of technology that I depend on as my primary camera as well as doing work when I'm on the road.

Let's take a look at what I love about them and their phone cases ...

Durable Materials

UAG has a wide spectrum of materials based on different price points - for me, I'm a fan of the Monarch Pro since it features a five-layer design that includes carbon fiber, a polycarbonate shear plate, alloy metal hardware, and is surrounded by impact-resistant rubber.

Some people may not need ... or want something so heavy duty and for me, it is a debate every time I buy a new phone, so there are other options such as the Plyo Series that offer less ruggedness but the lightweight TPU frame is much lighter and costs less than half the price of the big daddy that I depend on to protect my investment while traveling.

Design

There's three aspects to consider when it comes to design - aesthetic appeal, functionality, and protection ability.

Which factors are most important to you will vary depending on your personal preferences.

However, it’s important to find a mobile phone case that provides enough grip so that your device won't easily slip from your hands and features precise cutouts for easy access to ports & buttons without having to remove the cover altogether. Additionally, you may want to consider how easy the buttons are to press if you are wearing gloves or need to be able to press something quickly without looking at the device itself.

Some other cases that I've tried lack definition and so I might accidentally press the power button rather than change the volume.

Finally, while durable materials are essential to protecting your phone, having a mobile phone case designer that understands how to construct something so that it offers maximum protection while being as light as possible and still easy to hold is the holy grail.

Luckily I always find UAG cases that match my needs here.

Compatibility With Magnetic Chargers

One of the newer things that has proven to be challenging with cases - including some previous generations from UAG to be fair, is that wireless chargers simply don't work as well when you put a heavy layer of plastic between the charger and back of the phone.

In the case of the Monarch Pro case as well as the Metropolis Lite series, they feature a built-in magnet that is designed to help facilitate that connection with the charger. This not only makes it easier to charge but also a faster wireless charging experience and it helps the phone stay put too.

Kickstands, Lanyards, and Other Features

Heather, my wife, loves her pop sockets and kickstands so she can watch movies on her phone while we travel. Personally, though, I'm less excited about gimmicks but if this is important to you ... UAG might not be the best brand.

That being said, I do like that the Monarch Pro series has a lanyard anchor. This is something that I think will come in handy when I travel since I regularly stick my phone out the side of the car window or over the railing on a cruise ship balcony, having a lanyard to catch the phone if it slips would be a huge benefit to me.

Price

Last but not least, always remember to set aside a budget before searching; prices range greatly depending on what type and brand of phone you have so make sure that you're getting something within your budget range. Most cases provide great value though paying more will usually result in higher-end materials being used while sacrificing on quality isn't advised either due to potential damage risks associated with cheaper covers!

UAG is almost never the cheapest option ... but they tend to be the best option. At least that's the way I look at it. For instance, while the Monarch Pro is $99.95 and I used to balk at paying more than $40 for a case. However, at that same time, my phones back then were only $500 and now they are almost $1,500. Certainly investing that price in a case that I have confidence in is a worthy expense.

Even at almost $100 for the ultimate protection, it is still going to be cheaper than Samsung phone screen repair if something breaks!

Before Buying, Shop Around And Read Reviews ...

I already know what I want and I wouldn't pay for another brand without some really good reason. Don't just take my word for it though, go do your own research too.

When shopping around for a case, there are several things one should consider before settling on one—from design elements to price range—in order to make sure that their new mobile phone remains safe from harm at all times! With these tips in mind, finding the perfect cover should be much easier now so start searching today!
