happy and healthy older man

It is often said that your health is your wealth. With this in mind, you need to make sure that you are taking good care of and guarding it like your personal treasure because in a way that's what it is. If you think about it there's not much you can do if you're not feeling great.

It puts you out of commission and limits you to a high degree. This is why you always need to make sure that you're doing everything it takes to optimize your health and overall well-being.

If you're ready to get focused and lead your best life, here's what you need to do.

Eat Well

Eating right is always going to be at the top of the list of things you need to do when it comes to looking at feeling great at just about any age. You're going to have to make sure that you are prioritizing fruits, vegetables, proteins and whole grains.

Stay hydrated. Get one of those water bottles that have motivational quotes for different hours of the day. They show you each milestone that you hit so you know how many millilitres of water you are drinking.

They're great motivators and offer a way to keep you on track when it comes to staying keeping water consumption high. Additionally, say no to processed foods and snacks that are too sugary.

Go to Bed

These days many people are sleep-deprived. However, many of them are not this way because they have insomnia or stress that is keeping them awake.

Many people are not getting to bed because they are on social media.

You need to limit your screen time, especially before bed if you find yourself addicted. Develop a different habit before bed such as reading or journaling. These are healthy habits that will help you to start relaxing and preparing your body to unwind for rest.

You should always be shooting for 7 to 9 hours of great sleep every night. This will allow your body and mind to recharge adequately. The best thing you can do is establish some kind of routine.

It may seem boring to you but your body will learn to respond over a period of time and you will end up getting more sleep.

Be sure to make your bedroom as comfortable as possible. The lighting and your mattress must be ready to accommodate your back and your entire body. When you sink into that mattress at night you should feel your body sinking down into comfort. You should not become so restless you feel as if you have to toss and turn just to position yourself correctly.

If you are currently doing this, it's time to take a drive to the nearest furniture store and don't be afraid to be one of those people who test out mattresses a little too much before you buy. Lay on it and see if it feels comfortable, mattresses are heavy not only to lift but on the pocket too! You must make a great choice.

Buy some lamps as well to help set the ambience in the room at night. Consider evicting the TV if you have one in your bedroom, the blue light can keep you awake and cause you to become restless as well.

Stress Management Is Key

Throwing stress out the window is also something that you should be doing to make sure that you are in optimal health. What does throwing stress out the window look like?

It may mean getting rid of that toxic friend or severing ties up with someone you are in a toxic relationship with. The people you surround yourself with can greatly impact your mental health.

Your mental health will eventually trickle down into your physical health. If the former is not great you can expect a deterioration physically there's no doubt about that.

Work-Life Balance

Work-life balance is also something you should be striving for as well. If your job is literally bulldozering and taking a wrecking ball to your personal life it's time to make a change.

This is not good for you emotionally and it will eventually affect your physical health as well. You cannot walk around being burned out every single day. It's just not sustainable.

If things are getting out of hand it's probably time for you to seek employment or set some strong boundaries. If you work for yourself this can be very difficult.

It can be easy to give in to the temptation to just continue working because there's no one there to stop you. However, this is where you have to impose those boundaries on yourself just as you would if you were working for someone else.

The bottom line is you need to know when to stop working and prioritize your personal life.

Find Purpose and Meaning

You must make sure that you find purpose and meaning in your life. Otherwise, you'll just be wandering aimlessly and this can affect your mental health. As mentioned before your mental health will help the impact on your physical health as well.

What is it you want to achieve? How do you plan to go about achieving it? What are your passions? All of these are questions that you need to ask yourself.

It will help you to double down and what really makes you tick so that you can focus on achieving goals that will make you feel self-fulfilled. The great thing about setting goals and then achieving them is that no matter how many valleys and ditches you find yourself falling into along the way if you are laser-visioned you will achieve them..

Self Care

If you're not finding time for self-care this needs to change. You need to make sure that you are taking the time to participate in activities that will nourish you physically, emotionally and spiritually as well. Refresh your mind by taking a class and learning something new.

A good idea would be to learn something useful such as CPR. There is CPR & first aid certification online, so you can learn at your own pace. Of course, there are many other things you can learn, just pick something you're passionate about and stick with it.

You need to squeeze time for relaxation, doing your hobbies and any activities that bring you joy and peace. These activities do not have to be fancy and over the top.

It can be as simple as taking a walk out in nature. Breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the beauty of what is around you. These are simple ways in which you can enjoy self-care time. Remember that famous slogan that says, self-care is not selfish. This is absolutely correct and you should embrace this philosophy.

Be Adaptable and Resilient

If you want to look and feel great at any age you have to learn how to be adaptable. Life is always changing and there are so many things that are beyond your control. The sooner you accept that and let go of the need to be in the driver's seat all the time the less stressed you will be.

You have to learn to roll with the punches as they would say. You absolutely cannot afford to stop being adaptable and resilient. Just accept that things are going to change and some things are within your control and others are not. This mindset will help to keep you sane.

Remember that change is not always a bad thing it might seem like that at the beginning but in the end, you may find that some of your challenges and setbacks are only pushing you towards the mountain tops.

Embrace Aging Gracefully

There are two ways to age you can either do so gracefully or give it a fight until the very end. Chances are you're not going to win if you put up a fight.

The only thing you can do is accept that ageing is a process that is part of life's journey and focus on maintaining your health and vitality for as long as possible.

There will come a time when you have to practice radical self-acceptance as you age. Celebrate more than just what you look like to the naked eye. It is very likely you have gained a lot of wisdom and experience along the way and this is what makes you uniquely you.

Let go of any stereotypes you may have in your head about the ageing process. Do it your way and do it in style. This is the only way to make it all easier to deal with.

Life can feel like a roller coaster. It may seem as if you are constantly being twisted around, as well as turned and tossed to and fro. Unfortunately, there's often no way for you to go around this, all you have to do is learn all you can from it. Just be sure to take care of yourself so you can look and feel great at any age.
