Last week, I was talking with a fellow blogger friend about my ongoing saga of moving and what I am doing to make the transition into my new condo in South West Michigan easier. This challenge of maintaining a clean, organized space is top of mind for me and I am sure many of you have faced similar issues too. One solution I've found invaluable in preventing my new home from becoming as cluttered as my old one is using a storage locker. Here’s why considering a storage locker could be your best move too.

A Temporary Staging Area To Keep Clutter at Bay

A storage locker serves as an excellent staging area for all those items you're not immediately sure about placing in your new home. Instead of cluttering your living space from day one, you can keep things like old press samples, photo backdrops, and miscellaneous boxes out of sight but not out of mind. This allows you to methodically decide what really deserves space in your new condo.

Sorting Made Simple

With everything that isn't immediately essential able to be temporarily housed in a storage unit, you can sort through your belongings at your own pace without the pressure. This means you can make thoughtful decisions about what to keep, donate, or dispose of, ensuring that only the essentials make it back into your home. I wish the movers had sort things out originally so I wouldn't have to.

Flexibility and Accessibility

Most storage facilities offer flexible access hours, making it easy to get to your items when you need them. Storage units are incredibly convenient too. I can drop stuff off late at night before arriving home or go early in the morning. I don't have to check in with anyone, it's just there safe and secure with 24-7 monitoring. This is a game-changer for gradually moving items into your new space or retrieving seasonal items like holiday decorations or winter gear without disrupting the tranquility of your home.

Space for Experimentation

Not sure how certain pieces will fit into your new decor? Use the storage locker to hold onto them until you’re ready to experiment with different layouts and designs in your new setting. This keeps your options open while avoiding premature decisions that could lead to clutter.

As I navigate the balance between keeping a tidy new condo and managing the array of items accumulated over the years, the benefits of a storage locker have become clear. It's more than just a space—it's a strategic tool for creating the serene and inviting home environment I envision.

Another thing I noticed was that they must be incredibly profitable. I had a chance to talk with the owner and learned some interesting things that I'll probably share in a future post but I want to get your feedback first ...

What's Your Experience?

Have you ever used a storage locker during a move, or as an extended part of your home storage strategy? I’d love to hear about your experiences and whether you found it as beneficial as I have. Please share your thoughts in the comments below!
